We believe we have an obligation to protect and conserve New Zealand's natural resources so that it remains a great place for future generations.

At Kapiti Gateway Motel we are making a conscientious effort to reduce our impact on the environment whilst maintaining a high level of comfort for our guests.

We also try to have a positive influence on our local community. We believe with our local knowledge we can help our guests enjoy this magnificent region to the fullest.

WASTE MINIMISATION
We recycle Plastics, Glass, Tins, Cans & Paper. If guests have finished with any of the above recyclable products, they are encouraged to place them next to the unit rubbish bin so products can be easily transferred to our recycling bins. All bin liners are biodegradable plastic bags.
Refurbishment Programme: During our regular refurbishment programme, instead of dumping old furniture, crockery, cutlery and bedding we have always donated these items to organisations in our community. To date, the Salvation Army and Mary Potter Hospice have benefited from our renovations.

WATER CONSUMPTION
We try to avoid excess water consumption by limiting flow rates on showers. Each day huge amounts of water and detergent are used to wash towels that have only been used once. If guests are happy to re-use towels, we ask that they let us know.

CONSERVATION
We use environmentally friendly citrus cleaners and where possible use refillable containers.

When carrying out replanting and landscaping work we have deliberately chosen native trees and shrubs because they require less water and are attractive to New Zealand native birds. Targeted irrigation systems are on timers.

All lawn and garden equipment is 'Enviro' machinery and battery operated.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY
All our outside lights are on timers and, after set times, sensors activate lights on car park, walkways and stairs for guest safety and security. Where possible light bulbs at Kapiti Gateway Motel are long life energy efficient light bulbs.

Our swimming pool is solar heated during the months from October to March.

We encourage our guests to participate in saving energy and switch off appliances, heaters and lights when leaving the units. All beds are fitted with electric blankets for guest comfort and guests are encouraged to turn them off prior to going to sleep.
